The Role of Intelligence

On Episode 4: Friends, Foes, and Frenemies, we talk with Maria Robson-Morrow, PhD. We wanted to share some of her incredibly important scholarship. We hope you enjoy reading her research as much as we did!

Maria highlights a less well-known and critical function of business operations within the private sector: Intelligence. Corporations increasingly rely on analysts to ensure the physical and reputational safety of executives and the business. This work entails identifying and tracking threats in specific locations, informing strategic planning to ameliorate and mitigate risks before crises emerge, and navigating crises.

As we discuss on the podcast, good intelligence saves lives, resources and heartburn. The quality and reliability of intelligence is strengthened through communications between analysts, competitors, and even the private and public sectors. Maria’s work shines a light on the evolving professionalization of private intelligence functions and the role of communication and collaboration in intelligence gathering.
